Miami Vice was one of my favorite shows as a kid. In the pilot episode, Brother’s Keeper, detective Sonny Crockett brings a toy police car as a birthday present to his six-year-old son who lives with his ex-wife.

Sonny’s former partner, lieutenant and current Drug Enforcement Administration agent Scott “Scottie” Wheeler, is also celebrating the boy’s birthday with his wife and two children.

Later, Scottie is revealed to be secretly leaking information and is arrested by Sonny and the police in front of his home, while the rest of the family is watching from the yard.

The episode doesn’t tell about the trauma caused to Sonny’s son as a result of the events. From the boy’s point of view, the father, who was left by his mother, took his friends’ father to prison.
