Maalaus vangitsee hetken iltahämärässä. Metallinen roskapönttö muodostaa merkittävän elementin pojan vierellä. Auringonlasku tuo poikaan ja roskikseen kellertävää hehkua taustan pysyessä tummana, mikä korostaa kohtauksen tunnelmaa. Pilottijaksossa Brother’s Keeper etsivä Sonny Crockett vie kuusivuotiaalle pojalleen syntymäpäivälahjaksi leikkipoliisiauton. Poika asuu äitinsä, Sonnyn entisen vaimon, luona.

Sonnyn entinen työpari, luutnantti ja nykyinen huumepoliisin (DEA) agentti Scott ”Scottie” Wheeler, juhlii myös pojan syntymäpäivää vaimonsa ja kahden lapsensa kanssa.

Myöhemmin paljastuu, että Scottie on salaa vuotanut tietoja, ja Sonny pidättää hänet poliisin kanssa tämän kodin edessä — muun perheen seuratessa tapahtumaa pihalta.

Miami Vice was one of Kelmin Lumo’s favorite shows as a kid.

In the pilot episode, Brother’s Keeper, detective Sonny Crockett brings a toy police car as a birthday present to his six-year-old son, who lives with his ex-wife.

Sonny’s former partner, lieutenant and current Drug Enforcement Administration agent Scott ”Scottie” Wheeler, is also celebrating the boy’s birthday with his wife and two children.

Later, Scottie is revealed to be secretly leaking information and is arrested by Sonny and the police in front of his home, while the rest of the family watches from the yard.

The episode never addresses the trauma caused to Sonny’s son by these events. From the boy’s point of view, the father—already left by his mother—took his friends’ father to prison.
